Centenary Bank wins Kampala City Traders Authority (KACITA) award for best banking services.
Centenary Bank scooped the Best Banking Services award at the KACITA Quality Awards 2012, further affirming its position as the leading microfinance and commercial bank in Uganda.
Ms Beatrice Lugalambi, the General Manager Business Development and Marketing, received the award from Mr Everest Kayondo, Chairman Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) on July 17, in Kampala.
While receiving the award, Ms Lugalambi thanked Ugandans for voting Centenary as their bank of choice and for their continued support. “We thank the people of Uganda for choosing us as the best bank. At Centenary Bank, we are passionate about the common man,” she said.
Centenary Bank serves over 1.2 million customers through its 53 branches and over 100 Automated Teller Machines across the country. Its lending portfolio exceeds Shs520 billion, assets are worth Shs1 trillion while its deposits have grown to Shs700 billion. The bank recently opened its 19-floor Mapeera House headquarters in the heart of Kampala City to provide convenient and fast banking services in a comfortable environment for its customers.
At the handover ceremony, Mr Kayondo commented; “We are proud to see that one of our own is winning. It means you are adding value to our people,” he said. The KACITA awards, he added, “are run professionally and the selection process was overseen by the Institute of Corporate Governance in Uganda.” The awards were introduced to reorganise companies which offer high quality products and services to consumers in Uganda. The best companies are chosen by the public through Ernest and Young an audit firm and a panel of professional judges excluding KACITA.
Last year, Centenary Bank, won two prestigious gold awards at the inaugural Financial Reporting Awards in Uganda. The bank, won The Report of the Year Gold Award, the overall award, for submitting and maintaining quality financial records in 2010. In addition, the number one lender to the agriculture sector, scooped the Financial Reporting Awards Banking Services –Gold award, which is awarded to an institution with the best financial report in the banking industry. The awards are an initiative of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), aimed at promoting excellence in financial reporting in Uganda.
Centenary Bank is committed to offering high quality and affordable financial services and products to its customers and extending the same to those who have not yet embraced them. “We are going to improve our quality further and this year, we will open up six new centres, by the end of 2012, we will have 60 branches,” Ms Lugalambi said. The bank is also committed to working closely with KACITA to serve the common man. “Whenever KACITA calls us, we shall be there to work as one,” she added.
